Five hand pumps, as mentioned before, but with three beers from local breweries, so it looks like previous criticisms have been taken care of. All three were pale and of modest strength, though. My half of 4Ts EPA 3.7% was ok (NBSS 3) and £4.30/pint. The conversation of the Friday afternoon crowd was keeping the background music at arms length, but this was with only a dozen customers - I don't think I'd have coped with two dozen in this reverberant space.

A recent re-visit found five hand pulls, three of which were in active service and offering Marstons 61 Deep, Pictish Magnum and Well Drawn Millennium. The Marstons offering took me by surprise and seemed out of place at this establishment! All cask ales were £3.30 a pint (£1.65 for a half). A chalk board lists the cask, premium keg and craft keg options. The real ale choice seemed reduced compared to previous visits, and the Marstons offering reduced that choice further, in my opinion.

I seem to recall more sewing machine tables when visiting previously - this time there is just one in the window at the front and the rest are more normal in style! I noticed a jukebox and a games machine. I did also notice a slight damp smell.

Still worth checking out and is very handy if you have a bit of time between trains if walking between the Warrington Central and Bank Quay.

Real Ale Ray left this review about 9 Gallon

We managed to bag the booth at the front window which houses a Singer sewing machine fixed to the table, seemingly a popular haunt for the locals, so hence a lot of disappointed couples popping in for a drink, to see their favourite spot had been taken. I would have parked myself anywhere as the Abbeydale Moonshine was excellent and I kept going back to the bar for more. Their other two ales on handpump were Bowland Deer Stalker and Morton 2 Brave Men, which were also both in excellent condition.
